How much credit do I get for my original diamond?

100% of what you originally paid for the diamond, applied toward the new stone. There is no doubling requirement and no expiration, so a stone bought fifteen years ago carries the same credit as one bought last month. The credit covers the diamond itself rather than the setting, mounting or labor, which is worth knowing when you compare against programs that quote a percentage of total purchase price.

What qualifies for the upgrade program?

Loose natural diamonds, the center stone of a natural diamond engagement ring, and natural diamond studs, all purchased at SVS. Lab grown diamonds, moissanite and diamond simulants are excluded, as are fashion jewelry, pendants and necklaces. If you are unsure whether a piece qualifies, bring it in and we will tell you before you make any decisions.

Is there a minimum I have to spend on the new diamond?

The new diamond needs to be larger or of higher quality than the one you are trading, but there is no requirement to double your spend. You pay the difference between your credit and the new stone. Some clients move up a quarter carat at a time across several upgrades; others wait years and make one significant jump.

What condition does my diamond need to be in?

Original condition, free of chips, scratches or damage from misuse, modification or unauthorized repair, and accompanied by its original grading report or SVS appraisal. Everyday wear is expected and fine. Our GIA Graduate Gemologists verify condition and authenticity at the time of trade, and we will tell you honestly if there is an issue before you commit to anything.

Can I trade in a diamond I bought somewhere else?

The Lifetime Upgrade Program applies to diamonds purchased at SVS, but we do consider outside diamonds for trade-in separately. Our GIA Graduate Gemologists will evaluate your stone on condition, grading report and current market value, then make you an offer toward any natural diamond or ring in our collection. Those evaluations are at our discretion rather than a guaranteed program, so bring the stone and its paperwork in and we will give you a straight answer.

Do I have to trade in the whole ring?

No. The program covers the center stone, so you can keep your setting if you love it and simply have the new diamond set into it, or choose a new setting at the same time. Our master setter handles the work here in Oceanside. If the existing setting will not safely hold a larger stone we will tell you before any work begins.

Bring your SVS natural diamond back to our Oceanside showroom at any time — whether as a loose stone, the center stone of your engagement ring, or your natural diamond studs. We will credit you with 100% of what you originally paid for that diamond toward a new, larger, or more valuable natural diamond. You pay only the difference — and our GIA Graduate Gemologists will help you select the perfect upgrade.

What about the setting?

The upgrade credit covers the diamond itself. You are welcome to keep your existing setting and have the new stone set into it, and our master setter will tell you first whether it can safely hold a larger diamond. If you would rather start fresh, most clients sell the old setting back to us for credit that goes toward the new design alongside the diamond trade-up. Didn't purchase your diamond at SVS?

We welcome diamonds from other sources for trade-in consideration. Our GIA Graduate Gemologists will evaluate your stone and, based on condition, grading report, and current market value, make you a competitive offer toward any natural diamond or ring in our collection. All outside diamond evaluations are made at the sole discretion of SVS Fine Jewelry. The fine print — plainly stated

This guarantee applies to the natural diamond center stone only and excludes any mounting, setting, prongs, ring shank, post backings, or other jewelry component. Settings are not part of the trade-up credit, though we are usually glad to purchase them separately — ask us and we will quote you. Eligible original purchases include loose natural diamonds, natural diamond engagement rings (credit applies to the center stone only), and natural diamond studs. The trade-up credit is based solely on the original purchase price of the diamond itself and does not apply toward any setting, mounting, or labor. The diamond must be returned to SVS Fine Jewelry and accepted before your new diamond selection is confirmed. The diamond must be in its original condition — free of chips, scratches, or damage caused by misuse, modification, or unauthorized repair — and accompanied by its original grading report and/or SVS appraisal. The trade-up credit is non-transferable and applies only to the original purchaser. Diamond trade-up transactions are not eligible for additional discounts, promotions, or price match requests. SVS Fine Jewelry reserves the right to verify the condition and authenticity of any diamond presented for trade-up and to determine eligibility at its discretion.
