A pear shaped diamond at the center, surrounded by a halo and carried down the band in 14 karat white gold. The setting is A.JAFFE, and we set this stone into it at our own bench in Oceanside.
On a pear, the number that decides whether the stone looks right is the length to width ratio, because GIA does not grade cut on fancy shapes and the outline varies enormously from cutter to cutter. This one measures 8.11 by 4.91 millimeters, a ratio of 1.65, which sits in the middle of the range most people find the most flattering on a hand. A pear that reads too stubby or too stretched is almost always a ratio problem, not a carat problem.
The center stone is a 0.72 carat natural pear brilliant, E color and VVS2 clarity, with Excellent polish, Excellent symmetry and no fluorescence, GIA report 6502609630. E is the second highest color grade there is, and VVS2 means inclusions a trained grader needs magnification to find. That is an unusually high grade combination at this size, because most buyers trade color and clarity for carat weight. This stone goes the other way. The table is 61 percent and the depth 60.3 percent, and the GIA report number is inscribed on the girdle.
Around it, thirty-four round diamonds form the halo and continue down the band, adding 0.78 carats in G to H color. Total weight is 1.50 carats.
