Three Generations of Watchmaking

MICHELE's story begins in 1940s Belgium with Maurice Barouh — a master watchmaker who passed his craft to his son Jack. Jack's career took him to Latin America, where he worked in the watch and diamond trade before founding MICHELE in 1995 and naming the brand after his daughter. The brand began as a colorful line of children's watches that quickly became a runaway hit, prompting the family to relocate to Miami and expand into women's timepieces. In 2000, MICHELE launched its first signature collection — the Deco — and the brand's American watchmaking history shifted into gear.

In 2004, MICHELE was acquired by Fossil Group, giving the brand global distribution while keeping the Barouh family at the design helm. Michele Barouh — the brand's namesake — joined the family business in 2000 and today serves as Creative Director, having helped guide the brand's defining innovation: the interchangeable strap and bracelet system that lets a single watch case transform between styles, occasions, and outfits in seconds. Every MICHELE timepiece is powered by Swiss-made movements produced in Geneva by Tempus, the manufacturing company Jack Barouh founded.

Our In-House Watchmaker, Tony T., handles routine MICHELE service on premises at our Oceanside workshop — battery replacement (often same-day), link adjustment, strap and bracelet swaps, and band-and-clasp fitting. For warranty work and full mechanical service, we coordinate directly with MICHELE so clients avoid international shipping, factory paperwork, and warranty risk. We also service MICHELE watches that were originally purchased elsewhere.
